Cut to the beat, from footage shot in the dark

An electronic party in Germany, cut from handheld night footage to a track the organisers wrote themselves.

The brief. Lumen is built around people meeting each other rather than around a stage, and it already has a following that knows what the event feels like. The video had to carry that feeling to the people who haven't been yet.

What I did. The footage arrived handheld and shot in the dark, so the first pass was rescue — colour, sharpness and image enhancement until it held up on a phone screen. They had their own track, which changed the job: when the music belongs to the event, the cut can sit on the beat instead of under it, and that is where the piece found its rhythm.

The result. Good reach across their channels, and people showing up to the events that followed.
